VE CREW recently worked with Sony Music to film a live performance by Camila Cabello at Brixton Academy.

We provided 5x Arri Amira cameras, an excellent choice for shooting in low light conditions, together with a selection of high-end lenses including Angenieux Optimo 24-290, Canon CN20 and Canon CN7s to produce beautiful optics, creative visuals and the ultimate cinematic effect.

The event was sold out so venue space was limited and large items such as jimmy jibs were not an option. With this in mind, we provided a Polecam and Sony FS7 camera to capture movement on stage and audience shots. We were also able to utilise the dress rehearsal for Steadicam footage which was then integrated into the final performance recording.

We used fibre optic cabling for extra range to feed to our gallery in the venue’s basement. For safety reasons, these cables needed to be pre-installed and raised to the ceiling before the audience was admitted, so a recce was essential to establish the most suitable layout for the cable runs.

Our client’s request for a quick, smooth turnaround in post meant that we needed to do as much as possible on the day to provide them with an edit-ready recording. Our custom-built gallery enabled us to have full control over the production. As well as filming on camera, we provided ISO recordings for each camera position, together with a live-mix, via black magic hyper decks to enable our client to go straight into the edit after the shoot. All cameras shot 50fps to also offer the option of a slow-motion element if required.

Our hand-picked team of nine technicians included Operators, Assistants, Vision Engineers, DIT, DOP and Technical Supervisor, all of whom used their expertise and creative flair to produce yet another fantastic end result!
