THE BUTTON

VE CREW recently worked on the development of a new BBC1 game show – The Button. From the programme’s initial concept through to filming, we worked alongside Director Andy Devonshire and Avalon for two years to bring this unique show to our TV screens.

The 30 minute game show, which can arrive in any home around the country, visits five families over eight weeks and watches as they simultaneously compete against each other to win a set of challenges against the clock.

The programme required us to plan, build and provide six bespoke gallery vehicles to travel the country, alongside a central gallery hub that we installed in London to operate the game and to view and oversee the entire production. Kit included: 24x Panasonic UE70 4k remote head cameras and 24x Blackmagic Micro Studio 4k cameras.

Each production unit was fully equipped for fixed rig multi format camera operation with ISO continuous recording, broadcast servers for reply solutions, live video switching and streaming, network services, file sharing, talkback over IP, and IT for the game’s interface.

A team of seven technicians was supplied for each location and the unique approach to this programme meant that each crew member had to go through training and pre-production briefings to ensure unity and technical knowledge across the board.
